Used Hyundai Kia 2.0 and 2.2 CRDi engine: D4HA or D4HB, which one for your vehicle?
On Hyundai and Kia SUVs from the last decade, two diesels come up again and again: the 2.0 CRDi D4HA and the 2.2 CRDi D4HB. They belong to the same family and share a similar architecture, and that is precisely what catches buyers out: ordering one instead of the other is a common mistake.
D4HA: the 2.0 CRDi
The D4HA is the most widespread. Depending on the version, it produces from 136 hp to just over 180 hp. It is fitted in particular to:
Hyundai Tucson and ix35
Kia Sportage generations III and IV
Some versions of the Hyundai Santa Fe and Kia Sorento
D4HB: the 2.2 CRDi
The D4HB is the larger-displacement version, reserved for the heaviest models. It is found mainly in the Hyundai Santa Fe, Kia Sorento and Kia Carnival. With more torque, it is not designed for the lighter bodies of the Tucson or the Sportage.
Why one cannot replace the other
The displacement and the engine mapping are different: your vehicle's control unit is calibrated for its original engine.
The ancillaries — turbo, manifolds, mounts — are not always identical from one version to another.
The emissions standard also matters: a Euro 5 engine and a Euro 6 engine with the same code are not necessarily compatible with the same exhaust after-treatment system.
The only reliable method: note the reference stamped on the block, or send us your vehicle registration document. We confirm compatibility in writing before any payment.
